Puget Sound has a strong athletic history dating back to when the school was an NAIA member. When UPS and the entire membership of the Northwest Conference (NWC) shifted affiliation to D3, Logger athletics wasn’t phased a bit. Teams across all sports routinely compete for conference and regional supremacy. UPS now offers 21 varsity sports (10 men’s), and one-fifth of the school’s student body competes in intercollegiate athletics. Football Head Coach: Phil Willenbrock, pwillenbrock@ups.edu, (253) 879-3457 The Loggers ended the 2004 season with a 49-3 pasting of the Pioneers of Lewis and Clark. The win was the programs largest since a 43-point defeat of Eastern Oregon in 1985. The teams effort was rewarded with ten players earning various All-NWC team honors. Golf Head Coach: Dr. Richard Ulrich, rulrich@ups.edu, (253) 879-3426 In the final men's golf tournament of 2005, Puget Sound finished in fifth-place at the Northwest Conference Championships Soccer Head Coach: Reece Olney, rolney@ups.edu, (253) 879-3586 Puget Sound finished the 2004 season with a 13-3-3 overall record, the sixth consecutive season the Loggers have won 12 or more games. The Loggers posted a 10-3-1 conference mark, good for a second-place finish in the NWC. Puget Sound has finished first or second in five of the past six seasons.
